Hey Tracy,
Is the first step of the collected front cross towards the dogs extended take off point? I’m trying to sort out my foot work with a live instructor who wants that step towards the jump. But, that cues extension for Gemma.
Thanks,
Ginger
Good question! I have found that using the ‘new leg’ to indicate the collection on a tight FC takes out the need to step anywhere in particular 🙂 For example – if you have a collected FC like a wrap FC, you begin slowing down pretty early so that as the dog needs the turn info, you can be fully rotated so that your new leg is indicating the jump/turn and your arms do pretty much nothing 🙂 The decel to be able to rotate also really helps the dog see that the collection is coming. You can do this from pretty much anywhere. I will only step towards the jump if I am way ahead… trying to think of other situations where I might step towards the jump but nothing comes to mind because of the issue you mentioned: stepping towards the jump indicates extended jumping more than we want, and delays our rotation.
I video taped a bunch of collected FCs today for the CAMP class at AU, so I can post them if you like to see where I step! I am SUPER happy with how Voodoo turned when I did this (also as the first part of a cue combo/spin).
Tracy
Hi there! Here are some FCs and FC/BC (spin) combos so you can see what I mean by that new leg stepping back to the jump/line to cue the commitment and connection simultaneously.
